I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream … but where do ice cream lovers go to indulge their frosty passion? Here are two FMCA members’ answers to this month’s question: Describe your favorite ice cream parlor.

***

Moomers in Traverse City, Michigan, is our favorite ice cream parlor. Nancy Plummer’s homemade ice cream is so popular that people line up out in the parking lot just to get their favorite flavor of ice cream, yogurt, or other ice cream product. As newlyweds, Nancy and her husband, Bob, moved to an old farm in Traverse City. Her dream was to one day open her own business, and he wanted to farm. Both their dreams came true: she opened the ice cream parlor, which overlooks the family farm “” complete with milking cows, dairy barns, and lush green pastures. The whole family has worked hard to make Moomers a success, and son Jon is now a partner in the business. In late May, Moomers won Good Morning America Weekend’s “Best Scoop Challenge” on ABC TV. Moomers is five miles outside of town on North Long Lake Road, but it has become “the destination” for local families, school groups, and tourists (www.moomers.com).

Since 1980 my wife and I have owned three RVs: a 19-foot Mobile Traveler; a 34-foot Airstream Cutter; and a 22-foot BT Cruiser, our current motorhome. During our Mobile Traveler days, we enjoyed driving to one of our favorite in-city parks on Sundays: Lake Harriet, Edina (Minneapolis), Minnesota. We would park at the curb facing the rose garden, fire up a small grill, and throw on a couple of steaks and ears of corn and have dinner with the greatest view of the rose garden in bloom. After dinner we would walk the short distance to the Lake Harriet concession and order scoops of some of the most delicious ice cream in the Twin Cities. We enjoyed our dessert while listening to the evening concert being performed at the band shell. In our years of travel and venues of enjoyment, we have never been able to find a more pleasant place. We’re sure it was all about the ice cream (www.minneapolisparks.org).
