Ferris wheels, roller coasters, carousels, and other rides interest kids of all ages. This month, the scales tipped heavily toward one destination that offers these attractions. We asked “Rear View” readers:
What’s your favorite amusement park?
Growing up in Southern California, my favorite amusement parks were The Pike in Long Beach and Pacific Ocean Park on the Santa Monica Pier. Well, The Pike and POP were torn down in the ’70s, but there’s still Pacific Park on Santa Monica Pier (www.pacpark.com). It’s Los Angeles’ only admission-free amusement park and the West Coast’s only amusement park that is located on a pier. Seen in countless movies and TV shows, Pacific Park is one of my favorite spots to visit when I’m in SoCal, and its parking lot is motorhome-friendly. Plus, the sunsets are breathtaking!

With a son who is a roller coaster nut, we have been to many an amusement park, and hands down, our favorite is Cedar Point in northern Ohio. It is a well-run park right on Lake Erie, which is so beautiful. Plus, it has a great mix of wooden and modern coasters.

Whenever we’re on the road, we like to visit theme parks, amusement parks, and similar attractions. Since we bought our first RV, we’ve been to Disney, Six Flags, and many more. Without a doubt, our favorite amusement park would have to be Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. Known for its roller coasters, Cedar Point has a lot to offer everyone. Those who stay on property at the resort are just a short walk from restaurants, a beautiful beach on Lake Erie, a walking trail, shows, and the many rides. The Sandusky area offers plenty of other things to do, such as shopping or a side trip to Put-in-Bay, where the Battle of Lake Erie was fought in 1813. “The Point” has long been a destination that has thrilled all ages.

Our favorite amusement park is Cedar Point in Sandusky, Ohio. We have camped there with extended family the last two summers and enjoy it immensely. There’s something about falling asleep to the thunderous sounds of a roller coaster just a stone’s throw away, and then waking up to the laughter of little children splashing in the water park next door. Cedar Point itself has a nice campground, much along the caliber of a very well-kept RV park. But we typically opt for the less expensive “parking lot” campground. Cedar Point’s roller coasters, water rides, and many other rides and attractions captivate my entire family all day and into the night. A must-do every summer!
