It’s a well-known fact that RVing is a family-friendly activity. Many treasured memories “” or just plain fun ones “” can be enjoyed with several generations in tow. And that brings us to this month’s topic:
If you travel by motorhome with children or grandchildren, what fun activities do you enjoy together?

For many years, we have met our son and his family in the Gatlinburg (Smoky Mountains) area of Tennessee. We bring the coach and park it in the valley sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas. His boys enjoy going to all the attractions around that area. Cynthia, who the kids call “Honey,” loves to play games and decorate the coach. The grandkids love the games, too, plus all the holiday decorations, and usually have some “sleepovers” with us. One game Cynthia and the boys enjoy is “Pass the Pigs,” obtained at most RV stores. Our son is 6 foot 9 inches tall and played Arkansas ball, so this game is a natural for his little Razorbacks. We believe it’s good for the kids to learn about camping and share in some of the RV rituals. In fact, we think they enjoy coming to the coach more than the hotel/motel suites our son gets. We do!

For those of you contemplating traveling with children “” either your own kids or your kids’ kids “” stop thinking about it and do it! Something as simple as watching their eyes light up when a plate of pancakes and eggs (with the tiny individual heated syrup bottles) are placed in front of them at a Cracker Barrel, to something as big as an all-day pass to a Six Flags amusement park, will be a treasured memory for years to come. They grow up so quickly; don’t blink, because you’ll miss all that time between diapers and a dormitory at their college of choice. Savor every moment. Time flies when you’re having fun!

Our 4-year-old granddaughter, Jenna, told her dad she was afraid of that “big brown thing” in Grandpa Tim’s driveway. So, we planned a one-day overnight trip for her and her dad to travel with us to Hershey Park, Pennsylvania, in our (brown) Monaco Diplomat. Friends at work suggested putting some balloons in the coach so that Jenna might sense fun instead of fear. So, we did, and it worked like a charm! She loved the trip to Hershey and now calls our coach the “Magic Bus”!
