The coach is parked and leveled, you’re settled in your campsite, and now it’s time to enjoy a little rest and relaxation. Food makes a nice accompaniment. Here’s a sampling of readers’ responses to this month’s question:
What’s your favorite snack to make and/or enjoy around the campfire?

Sam’s Club carries little wieners wrapped in dough that you pop in the oven for 25 minutes. When the pastry turns crispy and toasted, they are done. . . . and delicious. I always carry a few batches of them for bring-a-dish gatherings or just for our own enjoyment. Another dish we enjoy, which I also make for bring-a-dish, is cheese and pineapple. You start with cheese squares (any type of cheese; my hubby likes Swiss) and a can of chunk pineapple. Drain and put the pineapple in a dish and the cheese in another dish. Using toothpicks, stab a chunk of pineapple, then a chunk of cheese. It might not sound that tasty, but try it — guaranteed you’ll like it!

The snack we enjoy are brats wrapped in aluminum foil. We throw them in the fire until the grease comes sizzling out of the foil. That usually means they’re ready!

When we attended a rally as guests of the Delta Sierra Coachers Club (an FMCA chapter) in the desert south of Quartzsite, Arizona, we were treated to a huge campfire after a delicious meal. After stories and jokes, the fire had reduced to glowing embers, and one of the hosts came with a long-handled shovel and placed a few embers under each camp chair — boy, what a treat on a cool desert night, but I digress. While the embers were being distributed, another member came with a leaf rake, the kind that will fold up to RV size. He placed a marshmallow on each of the tines and slowly roasted the marshmallows over the red embers for all. Later he joked that he also used the rake to clean up after his dog!
