My wife and I love playing cards, eating out,and potluck dinners. At Southern Trails RV Resort in Unadilla, Georgia, we have it all, plus more. Full hookupswith 50-amp and cable, bingo, cards, potlucks, and free pancakes. They go bowling once a week ($1 per game) and then out to eat. Did I say the people are the best?We stop whenever we pass by going south or north(www.southerntrailsresort.com; 478-627-3254). It’s the greatest!

The perfect travel/tourist combination in Georgia turned up in a very unexpected place: Greensboro, where I searched for a six-time great uncle from Revolutionary War days, who is buried there. We ran into a warm, friendly population. After a couple of inquiries, we found the town historian, and a lot more. Greensboro is a quaint town nearthe Antebellum Trail off Interstate 20 east of Atlanta, just north of lakes Oconee and Sinclair. I had navigated us there without fully disclosing my intentions to my pilot (not the biggest fan of cemetery crawling). We had a wonderful time. Our historian suggested several sites to help me with my genealogy research. Along the way, we found a terrific restaurant, visited one Georgia’s oldest jails, and had a private tour of the courthouse to see a portrait of another great uncle. We also toured the lakes south of town. My husband’s favoriteplace was a little pub frequented by country singer Zac Brown.

During our 25 years of travel for Dometic,we tried to sample the local cuisine of various destinations, and some places we seemedto visit over and over. The New Perry Hotel in Perry, Georgia, owned by the Johnson family, is one of those. This historic landmark has a quality restaurantserving a menuof Old South cooking that you will be hard-pressed to equal anywhere. The dining room is soft and elegant, and the wait staff is well-trained. The signature entree is the pork loin chop in cream gravy,my favorite, created by Patricia Johnson, but the fried chicken is also top-notch. Deanie prefers the talapia or cod. And the pecan pie is out of this world. The New Perry Hotel is located on Main Street in Old Town Perry; reservations are suggested(www.newperryhotel.com;478-224-1000).
