The Gateway Getaways and Ozark Ridge Runners chapters enjoyed a joint rally May 19-23, 2014, in Branson, Missouri. Thanks go out to those who planned the event, Don and Joyce Sturms of the Ozark Ridge Runners and Mark and Linda Boka of the Gateway Getaways.
A delicious potluck dinner kicked off the rally, which was held at America’s Best Campground. Members of both chapters had fun making new friends and learning about the other chapter’s activities and how its rallies are planned. Members also exchanged information about their favorite destinations.
Rally highlights included evening entertainment at the campground by the Farnum Family, who performed a fantastic program of bluegrass music. We also took a cruise on Lake Taneycomo, where members saw a pair of bald eagles perched on a tree branch near the shore. Captain Matt did a great job explaining the interesting history of the lake.
Some adventuresome friends visited the Copper Run Distillery for tastings of moonshine and rum. Then, off they went to a bed and breakfast/wedding destination to taste wine. Branson also offered many shows and plenty of delicious dining at Branson Landing.
