Families arrived in 37 motorhomes for the Badger chapter’s 50th anniversary rally, held September 22–25, 2016, at Recreation Park in Tomah, Wisconsin. Torrential rains on Wednesday and Thursday gave way to dry skies on Friday and Saturday.
Thursday night, members brought tasty hors d’oeuvres to a meet-and-greet event. This also gave us the chance to introduce ourselves to the seven couples who recently joined the chapter.
Friday, for a small fee, a bus transported members to the Cranberry Festival in Warrens, Wisconsin, where they took in the sights, sounds, smells, and wares. Traditional fair food included kettle corn, corn dogs, funnel cakes, cream puffs, and other tasty treats. That evening, members carpooled to a variety of eateries.
On Saturday morning, many lady Badgers arose early to prepare dishes for the potluck breakfast. A hearty meal was enjoyed by all. That evening, members feasted on brisket, pulled pork, potato salad, and baked beans, followed by cake.
In keeping with the rally’s 1950s theme, on Saturday night, ladies dressed in poodle skirts and saddle shoes. Even Elvis was in the house!
Current and past officers attended the rally. We were delighted that Marlys Ewers joined us in remembering past president Ed Ewers, who is no longer with us but made us all laugh during many past rallies.
On Sunday, a continental breakfast was followed by the general business meeting, during which officers were elected for 2017-2018. Afterward, we all pitched in to clean up and said our good-byes until we meet again.
