Describe a nickname you’ve given your motorhome.
We started our RV experience camping and sleeping in the back of an Isuzu Trooper SUV. We graduated to a VW camper van, then a Type C motorhome. When we finally got our 40-foot diesel pusher, it was (and is) the “be all, end all.” We named it the “Taj-Ma-Holly.”

Our latest coach is a 2009 Allegro Bus, which we like very much. But as with any like vehicle, it is prone to have fairly routine issues, big and small. So, in honor of, and respect for, the great comedienne Gilda Radner, we named our rig “GildaBus.” After all, as Ms. Radner so wittily said, “It’s always something.”

Our 1986 MCI bus conversion needed a nickname, so after some thought I came up with “Just Wandering.” We also found a perfect quote for the back: “Not all those who wander are lost,” which sums up our travel style and gets lots of attention. For instance, while sitting in the grandstand at the FMCA convention in Gillette, Wyoming, a few years ago, my husband told me that a lady asked if she could take a photo of the back of our bus. A fellow sitting in front of us turned around and asked what was on the back. When my husband told him, he laughed and showed us a photo of our bus that he had taken on his phone while in Quartzsite, Arizona, the previous winter. That’s just what we wanted: people to see us, smile, and remember “Just Wandering.”

In May 2001, I attended my first FMCA area rally. I was driving an Xplorer Type B motorhome, with a few very nice interior updates. A couple visited me and looked inside my coach, whereupon one of them said, “You’ve got a little ‘baby Newell’ here.” I hadn’t told the couple that my late parents owned a Newell Coach, so I knew the remark was a high compliment. I told them of my experience, and we agreed to apply the sobriquet “Baby Newell” to my coach.
Almost one year later, I found my current Airstream Type B while on a random road trip, bought it three days later, and returned to the same area rally, where I met the same couple (the U.S. and New Zealand flags on my awning poles reminded them). They looked the coach over and dubbed it “Baby Newell II.”
