October 2017
Some dedicated FMCA members were recognized at the association’s 2017 conventions in Chandler, Arizona, and Indianapolis, Indiana.
At Chandler, then-FMCA national president Charlie Adcock proclaimed March 10, 2017, as Sonny and Carole Gillespie Day. The proclamation noted that the couple from Hemet, California, has “gone the extra mile to bring joy to any members they see.”
Sonny served as national vice president, International Area, from 2008 to 2012. He also served on three national committees: Convention; Membership, including one year as chairman; and the Evacuation Benefit Special Committee. Sonny has been chief of security at FMCA conventions for many years, starting a few years before his election as national vice president. Once his term ended, he again became security chief, a post he holds to this day. Carole also has served as a member of the security crew.
The Gillespies, F192819, have been active in more than a dozen FMCA chapters as well. Sonny is vice president of the Tour Connection chapter and national director for the California chapter. Carole is vice president and national director of the Roamin’ Catholics Southwest chapter.
During the Indianapolis convention this past July, then-national president Charlie Adcock proclaimed July 14 as Steve and Vicki Pickens Day. Steve was chief of parking for that event, as well as at conventions in Perry, Georgia (2014); Gillette, Wyoming (2013); and the 2012 Indianapolis convention. He also has served as assistant parking chief at several conventions. Steve has been active in the South Central Area in several capacities, and he served on FMCA’s Governmental and Legislative Affairs Committee. Both Steve and Vicki, F263187, have held offices with the Stars of Texas chapter, and they have been active in other chapters as well.
