The Lone Star chapter celebrated its 50th anniversary with a rally September 7-9, 2017, at the Durant/Choctaw Casino KOA in Durant, Oklahoma. Lone Star received its charter in June 1967 and is the ninth-oldest chapter in FMCA.
Rally attendees included members, past members, and eight past presidents of the Lone Star chapter, as well as Jon Walker, FMCA national president; Rett Porter, FMCA national senior vice president; and Joe Wright, national vice president, South Central Area. The latter two are Lone Star members.
Lone Star has a history of active involvement in FMCA. The chapter has produced five national vice presidents, South Central Area; two national senior vice presidents; and one national president. Currently, three South Central Area officers are members of Lone Star: Joe Wright, Herman Mullins, and Frank Taber.
The rally officially started on Thursday with an ice cream social. Jon Walker talked about the current state of FMCA and spoke of some new and exciting things coming. He said that membership increased significantly during the past year.
During the Friday business meeting, chapter members elected officers for 2018, including president Don Hicks; first vice president Herman Mullins; and second vice president Carl Christensen. Marilou Hicks was re-elected as secretary, and Bobbie Mullins as treasurer. Following Saturday’s luncheon, Jon Walker, Rett Porter, and Joe Wright presented chapter president Les Lightfoot with a certificate recognizing the chapter’s 50th anniversary.
Also during the rally, chapter members presented more than 100 pounds of snacks, canned goods, and teddy bears to the Boys & Girls Club of Durant. Over the years, this chapter has collected more than 15,000 pounds of food and more than 5,000 stuffed animals for food banks.
Lone Star is ready to continue being a strong and active chapter in FMCA.
