March 2018
Members of the Thousand Trails of Texas chapter returned to the place where the chapter was founded — Medina Lake RV Campground in Lakehills, Texas — to celebrate the chapter’s 30th anniversary from November 17-19, 2017.
During the anniversary rally, we visited with friends, gathered for meals and evening games, enjoyed new crafts, and carpooled to special points of interest. Viewing photos from days gone by allowed members to remember friends, recall special moments, and share stories.
Joe Wright, national vice president, South Central Area, and his wife, Nancy, were special guests. Also attending were two of the chapter’s original members, Fred and Lou Kennedy, who were wagon masters for this memorable event. When the chapter formed in 1987, Fred was the chapter vice president, serving with president Shep Howson. Fred became chapter president in 1989, and Lou was secretary starting in 1988. The chapter’s current president, Smitty Smith, has held the office since 2007.
Thousand Trails of Texas members typically hold rallies at Thousand Trails campgrounds in the Lone Star State. We also have hearts for serving and giving. Many members hold officer and cadre positions within the South Central Area. With generous hearts, our donations the past 30 years have supported our local Fisher Houses (where military and veterans families stay free while a loved one is hospitalized) and Ronald McDonald Houses (where families stay free while their children receive medical treatment).
We invite a new generation of campers to join our chapter or stop by and be a rally guest. For more information, including the chapter’s 2018 rally schedule, visit www.ttoftexasfmca.com.
