Charitable activities have been part of the mission of Thor Diesel Club since it was founded in 2010. Today, the chapter continues its tradition of supporting charities in the communities where its rallies are held.
The chapter’s rally masters take on the responsibility of identifying deserving organizations, which have included food banks, homeless shelters, law enforcement agencies, and shelters for abused families.
During the chapter’s 2017 International Rally at the Elkhart County 4-H Fairgrounds, we raised funds for several charities. One was the Elkhart, Indiana, chapter of Disabled American Veterans (DAV), which provides support for veterans of all generations and their families. The chapter donated more than $3,000, which will help the Elkhart DAV buy a new transport van. It will display the Thor Diesel Club logo.
Donations also were collected for Homes For Our Troops, which builds and donates specially adapted custom homes nationwide for severely injured post-9/11 veterans. In appreciation, the charity sent Thor Diesel Club a nice certificate.
Given that Thor Diesel Club holds three national rallies and at least nine regional rallies each year, the scope of the chapter’s charitable work is wide-ranging. A great membership and dedicated directors and regional directors help make it happen. In addition, the outstanding support the chapter receives from Thor Motor Coach helps us continue the tradition of giving back to the communities we visit.
