Family Matters: Meet The Family

May 1, 2019
Family Matters: Meet The Family
FMCA members Bill and Cheryl Conrod.

Bill and Cheryl Conrod, F489157

Home: Grand Junction, Colorado.

Occupations: Retired from federal and education work.

RV: A 2008 17-foot Casita travel trailer.

RVing since: October 2008, but both of us have car/canoe camped and backpacked since the 1960s.

Why we bought our first RV: It was a 22-foot Forest River Wildwood, purchased upon retirement in 2005. We needed a residence for four months between homes. Why live in one place, we said. We wandered the Pacific Northwest and western Canada before settling on the Oregon coast.

Best RVing experience: Traveling from Colorado to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, catching fall foliage. Waking up to a fresh, gorgeous view out the window.

Hobbies: Painting/drawing, photography, hiking, visiting museums.

Nerdiest thing we do in our spare time: Beachcombing and rockhounding. We almost never buy souvenirs; rocks, shells, and driftwood bits are our treasure.

Most amusing encounter: At Capitol Reef National Park in Utah, a Belgian RVer declared with a smile that we were “un-American,” because our 17-foot travel trailer was so small, more like a European caravan. We replied we had traded in our 22-foot trailer for it, because we thought it was too big. He just shook his head.
