Don’t Forget About FMCAssist
We have been FMCA members for a couple of years now. When I signed us up, it was because we had purchased a 40-foot motorhome that had some really large tires on it. FMCA has a great program for purchasing new tires for these large coaches. I figured we would be in need of new tires someday.
I have to admit, I didn’t look any further than the great deal on tires. My husband, Ron, didn’t look much further, either. We found out about the FMCAssist Medical Emergency and Travel Assistance Program the hard way.
On September 4, 2018, we were on a trip into the Deep South and happened to be in Red Bay, Alabama, when my husband suffered a stroke. He was taken to a medical center in Tupelo, Mississippi. I was left in Red Bay in a motorhome I did not drive.
A neighbor at the RV park offered to drive the motorhome to Tupelo, so I could be closer to the hospital Ron was staying in. Once I was settled there, I went in search of a person to drive our RV back to our home in California once Ron was released from the hospital. That’s when I was told about the FMCAssist program and the Seven Corners connection.
I was put in touch with David at Seven Corners. He took all my information and held onto it until we were ready to be moved back to our home in California. About four weeks later, I gave him the go-ahead, and everything was taken care of seamlessly. Both of us and our little dog were flown business-class back to Sacramento. Ron had a nurse beside him all the way, and he went to a rehab center. Our motorhome was driven back by a person hired by Seven Corners. All I had to worry about was making sure Ron was taken care of.
I will be eternally grateful for FMCAssist, and I will be telling anyone who will hear me about this lifesaving program.

Extending A Thank-You

Participants of varying ages and skill levels can volunteer their time, sometimes when attending Extension presentations or workshops.
I extend my greatest appreciation for the article “Education, Enrichment Through ‘Extension’” by Phillip Meeks (March 2019, page 48). It is an outstanding reminder of the excellent resource that is available in every county and parish in the United States. As noted, Extension still does a great deal of traditional work as we have for more than 100 years. However, there are a multitude of other resources and opportunities that are available today. I am the dean and director of Extension at the University of Florida, and we would love to see and work with RVers as they visit and stay in our great state!

I am a retired resource management program associate from the Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Ocean County office. I sent a copy of the March 2019 Family RVing to Brian Schilling, director of Cooperative Extension at Rutgers, the state university of New Jersey.
Regarding the article “Education, Enrichment Through ‘Extension,’” here is part of what I wrote to Mr. Schilling:
“I can’t tell you how surprised and proud I felt when I discovered the article. I am sure you and others in administration will find it very interesting. It most certainly is wonderful and well-rounded national publicity.”
My husband and I volunteer half of each year at national wildlife refuges around the country. We recently worked at our 25th site. We live in our motorhome during that time. Incidentally, we got into the RV lifestyle after attending a seminar conducted by another Rutgers Cooperative Extension specialist, who also is retired.

Happy To Share
WOW! Words can’t express how excited we were to see the March 2019 issue. Thank you SO much for helping us along the way to make the article (“Our Top Three Reasons To Visit Baja, Mexico,” page 54) a reality. We had no idea we’d make the cover, either. We look forward to sharing more exciting articles in the future.

Appreciating FMCA
My wife, Nancy, and I are relatively new members of FMCA, and the Perry, Georgia, convention this past March was our first. Nancy attended the RV Driving School before the convention, and I took the RV Basics course. We also spent the last couple of days totally immersed in seminars and meeting people and joining chapters (Military Veterans and Full Timers so far).
Nancy is over the moon about her experience with the driving school, and she’s told virtually everyone we’ve met. I fully enjoyed RV Basics and look forward to much more learning in the future.
I think FMCA is the most under-appreciated RV membership organization by those who haven’t joined, and maybe some who have. Thank you to FMCA president Jon Walker and the other leaders for all they do to continue to make this the best RV group in the world.

Do you have a cover-worthy photo you’d like to share?
We would love to showcase member-provided photos on the cover of Family RVing magazine, as we did with the Ingrams’ photo taken in Baja, Mexico. The photo needs to include an RV and to meet the following minimum requirements: a resolution of 300 dpi; 1800 pixels by 2700 pixels; photo size 6 inches by 9 inches; vertical format. Generally, photo file size of 14MB or larger. Provide your name, basic information about the photo, and your contact information to editor@fmca.com. If your photo is chosen, we’ll be rewarding the photographer with a check for $250. For a full list of requirements, see page 10 of the March 2019 issue or send a request to editor@fmca.com.
