Sisters’ Art Illustrates A Love Of RVing

It’s apparent that RVing in general and FMCA events in particular have made a favorable impression on 13-year-old Maddy Miskell and her 10-year-old sister, Maci. The girls and their parents, Chris and Charlsanne Miskell, F482650, live in Senoia, Georgia, and travel in a 2014 American Coach Revolution motorhome.

One way the homeschooled girls express themselves is through art. In their hometown, they attend a weekly art class led by an artist who teaches them to use various media. For a recent project, the girls were instructed to choose a state map and then adorn it with a design, either in charcoal or watercolor.

Maddy chose to use charcoal to replicate her family’s motorhome. It is set against a backdrop of the state of Arizona and the words “FMCA: Your RVing Family.” That was a nod to the family’s plans to attend FMCA’s 101st International Convention & RV Expo this past March in Tucson. Unfortunately, as many know, the convention was canceled because of the coronavirus outbreak. At past FMCA events, Maddy has enjoyed taking morning bike rides and meeting new people. She also has volunteered by serving as a mentor and providing facility tours.

For her art project, Maci used watercolors to create a peach on a map of Georgia. She chose the state partly because her family lives there, and partly because of her fond memories of the 2019 FMCA convention in Perry, Georgia. A highlight, she said, was volunteering at the ice cream social.

Both girls appreciate the opportunities that RV travel offers. Maci mentioned visiting national parks and participating in Junior Ranger programs. She also likes exploring, playing, and eating s’mores at campgrounds. For Maddy, highlights include visits to air and space museums.

In addition to Perry, the Miskells have attended FMCA conventions in Gillette, Wyoming, and Minot, North Dakota. Also, twice they have traveled to the Southeast Area Rally in Lakeland, Florida. The family planned to attend the 102nd FMCA convention this August in Lincoln, Nebraska, until that, too, was canceled.

Although they are disappointed about the cancellations, Maddy and Maci said their excitement is building for the next FMCA convention, March 10-13, 2021, in Perry, Georgia, where they’ll have another opportunity to make friends, volunteer, and enjoy themselves.
