Members of the GMC Colonial Travelers chapter celebrated our 40th anniversary with a small but mighty rally just outside of Allentown, Pennsylvania, in August. We gathered at the KOA Allentown Journey in nearby New Tripoli.
The weather was typical of summer in Pennsylvania — hot, humid, unpredictable rain. We managed to avoid the rain most of the time, and our hosts made sure we had a full banquet at all the meals. It was a great feeling to return to the familiar routine of eating, chatting, eating, chatting. We even had a Mexican Train choo-chooing around a table.

At right, Gaye Young (standing), national vice president, Eastern Area, and her husband, Jerry, paid a visit to the GMC Colonial Travelers at their 40th anniversary rally.
We were joined by Gaye Young, FMCA national vice president, Eastern Area, and her husband, Jerry, as well as Northeast Area regional vice president Phyllis Britz and her husband, Eric. Gaye and Phyllis greeted everyone and promoted the benefits of FMCA. Gaye made a presentation recognizing our 40th anniversary, and we thanked her very much. As our chapter president, Laszlo Nelidin, accepted the certificate and check, we all posed in front of his vintage GMC motorhome.
We had a lot of fun recalling our 40 years of rallies. One memorable happening was in 1991 when a rally host arranged for a hot-air balloon to take off from the rally grounds. The picture of our group was priceless. We also remembered having to evacuate a campground at another rally when a nearby creek turned into a raging river in a matter of hours. One member noted that it was the first time he drove his motorhome in his underwear!
We look forward to (at least) another 40 years of RVing!
