Family Matters: Jane Roush — Faithful Volunteer
Jane Roush

October 2023

Jane Roush, F243374, who served as FMCA national vice president, Great Lakes Area, from 2013 to 2016, passed away on July 22, 2023.

Jane was born May 22, 1950, in Sydney, Ohio, to Richard and Marcella (aka Shorty) Huecker. Richard was a WWII veteran and had his own construction business. Shorty was a stay-at-home mom raising eight children.

Jane married Roger Roush on June 22, 1972. They had three children, and Roger had a son from a previous marriage. Roger and Jane purchased their first motorhome in the late 1980s to travel to and from their kids’ sporting events throughout the Midwest. Jane loved cheering the kids on and helping wherever she could, including running the scorebooks. She was easily found in the crowd: Just listen for her cowbell as her team scored or won the game.

The motorhome also took the family to Florida to visit Disney World. The first RV only lasted a few years, but the bug for RVing remained. The Roushes would go on to purchase several different models.

Their travels continued as the kids entered college and played sports on that level. Afterward, Roger and Jane’s love for travel did not diminish. Instead, they found joy in traveling the United States together. Jane loved going to events and joining social groups. Her favorite pastime was getting together a group of people to play cards. She didn’t care about winning or losing. As long as she had a cold Mountain Dew (with extra ice) and a good crowd, she was having fun.

Jane and Roger joined FMCA in 1998. In addition to serving as national vice president, Great Lakes Area, Jane served on several national committees during her tenure: Nominating Committee, 2013; Membership/Member Services Committee, 2013-2015; Policy and Procedure Committee, 2013-2016; and Special Operation Procedures Committee, 2015-2016.

One of her proudest achievements was being recognized by her fellow members and then-FMCA national president Charlie Adcock when June 9, 2016, was proclaimed “Jane Roush Day.” Jane stepped down from her role to begin treatment for multiple myeloma.

Jane loved spending time with her family — especially her grandchild, Addilynn Jane Roush (Addi). Jane and Roger traveled whenever their health permitted. They eventually purchased Roger’s dream property in Meigs, Ohio. There, they could enjoy each other’s company and simply watch the grass grow. Roger passed away in February of 2021. Jane’s cancer returned in June 2023, and she passed peacefully shortly after.

“I asked Jane years ago if she would help me in a leadership position within the Great Lakes Area of FMCA,” said Jon Walker, past FMCA national president and also former national vice president, Great Lakes Area. “She willingly agreed, she did a wonderful job, and we became lifelong best friends. Her passing has shown me how short life is and the value of what good friendship is all about.”

Former Eastern Area national vice president and national treasurer John Reynolds and his wife, Jayne, had high praise for her as well: “Jane Roush was the best area vice president to ever serve in FMCA. Having worked with her when we were both VPs, I found her to be honest and forthcoming. She was never afraid to say no when it was called for. She was devoted to FMCA and its members. She did anything that was asked of her with a smile on her face.”

John added that Jane stayed with him and Jayne in 2022 to fulfill her bucket list wish of attending the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. “She and Jayne attended every game. She cheered for the Great Lakes region, of course. She is the best friend anyone could have, and we are proud to call her that. Our hearts are broken to lose her so soon.”
