FMCA Update: December 2023

FMCA Update: December 2023
Glenda and Gary Milner

Fun — And Not So Fun

RV ownership is a great adventure, and sometimes the unexpected happens.

Glenda and Gary MilnerNational President
Gary Milner, F409834

The last three months have been busy since I received the honor of becoming FMCA president. In September, Glenda and I traveled to FMCA headquarters in Cincinnati to become familiar with the current activities that needed my attention. We then attended the South Central Area Rally in Shawnee, Oklahoma, and the Eastern Area Rally in Lewisburg, West Virginia.

After leaving West Virginia, we found that we needed new front tires, so we spent the night in a busy truck center to have all the tires replaced. Tires are something that we constantly monitor because they are between you and the road. What we learned from this experience is that large-size tires are hard to find. If you plan on replacing yours, consider ordering in advance.

The holiday season is upon us — a time for reflection on the many blessings we have in this great nation. I would have never dreamed when I was a youth at home in a family of 19 children (16 sisters and 2 brothers) that someday I would be fortunate enough to own an RV and be able to travel to see all that America has to offer. Such a blessing.

I am recovering from a total knee replacement in October. This will not be on my bucket list in the future. You must be extra nice to your partner (nurse) because that person controls the pain medications!

We at FMCA are preparing for the 108th International Convention in Tucson, Arizona, March 20 through 23, 2024. I hope that you are making plans to attend. We have some new seminar offerings, great entertainment, a warm location, and an opportunity for you to spend time with your chapter friends and make new ones. Life is good. I realize that it is a long distance for some of you, but if you explore the West, you soon realize that there is a lot to see and do in Arizona. Hope to see you there.

I hate to tell on myself, but I seem to experience some interesting events even though I have been RVing for over 30 years. Who would have guessed that I would have another incident with the macerator system in my RV? The first experience with a macerator was not pleasant, and it won! While at the Newmar service center in July, I picked up another macerator hose and decided that I would try it again. Glenda tried to talk me out of it — we do have the traditional system — but I was determined to get the hang of this noncomplicated setup. Boy, was I wrong! When you don’t hook up the hoses correctly, then you get leaks. What a mess! Glenda was nowhere to be found. Imagine that!

Remember, it’s all about having fun!

Now For The Rest Of The Story By Glenda Milner

I want to enlighten you about Gary and his obsessions with the macerator. Gary did have an incident with the old macerator hose. It was defective and gave him a bath with the black tank. He then decided to buy another hose. I told him to just use the system that he is accustomed to and not worry about a backup system. Did he listen? Nope. We arrived at our garage in Arkansas, and he proceeded to hook up his new macerator hose. The next morning, we woke up to — well, you can imagine what you’d find if you didn’t hook up the system correctly. It was all over the garage floor and in the plumbing bay of the RV. I quickly had other things to do. After three hours of cleaning and disinfecting the garage, Gary stated that he feels the other system works just fine! You think? Ladies, sometimes you just have to let them learn the hard way! Hehe!
