June Davis, F158928, who served as FMCA national secretary from 2000 to 2003, passed away peacefully in her Modesto, California, home on October 15, 2023.
June was born on February 26, 1937, in Checotah, Oklahoma, to Orvin Elkins and Velva Raulston. She married Leonard Davis, her high school sweetheart, in 1957. She worked at Aerojet General Corporation in Sacramento, serving for 12 years as senior administrative secretary to the general plant manager, with secret security clearance, during the U.S. space buildup program. She also was a notary public during her 17 years as administrative assistant in the California State Legislature.
June and Leonard joined FMCA in 1992 and traveled to area rallies, chapter rallies, international conventions, and numerous committee meetings. The two were very involved in FMCA activities, and June spent many years promoting FMCA and conducting seminars for area and chapter secretaries.
June and Leonard always loved traveling. Before RVing became such a big part of their lives, the two would fly together. As a pilot, Leonard flew helicopters and airplanes for the California Highway Patrol and the military, and they purchased an airplane of their own. They eventually sold it to start RVing. As FMCA members for 32 years, the two traveled to all 50 U.S. states.
Music was June’s passion. She played the piano, sang gospel music, and performed the United States and Canadian national anthems prior to meetings at FMCA international conventions. The Davises belonged to numerous FMCA chapters and were actively involved as volunteers at area rallies and international conventions, often helping out with parking layout, greeting, will call, safety, Frustrated Maestros performances, and as facilitators for morning devotions. In addition to her role as national secretary, June also served on FMCA’s Governmental and Legislative Advisory Committee from 2000 to 2002 and as Education Committee chairman from 2003 to 2004.
June is survived by her husband, Leonard; two brothers; a sister; 13 nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and motorhoming friends across the continent. A memorial service was held in early December 2023 in Modesto.
