This month the spotlight is on creature comforts and other features to be enjoyed when the motorhome is parked. FMCA members shared their preferences by answering the following: Name your favorite amenities at campgrounds or RV resorts.

* * *

Though I love my cable and Wi-Fi, my favorite thing at an RV park is a fitness room. I have walked/jogged through many a park, and I enjoy it. But it is wonderful to have the option of using a treadmill, an elliptical trainer, or some type of weight machine or free weights. It does not have to be elaborate, just a couple of good pieces of equipment. When days are too hot, too cold, or too wet, I am thankful and delighted when a fitness room is available. As most of us know, after a few days riding in the motorhome, we need to “move.” To those RV parks that provide this, and I’ve found a few, thank you.

We enjoy ease of parking “” especially pull-through sites that are long enough so we can leave our towed car hooked up.

After a hard day of driving or a few days of dry camping, there is nothing better than finding a perfectly level site and then walking over to clean showers with lots of hot water. Yes, we appreciate the shower in our coach, but knowing that we’re not going to run out of hot water, or cause the next person to wait until the water is hot again, is nice, too. Also, when a campground has easy access to walking and/or bicycle paths, we are likely to stay an extra day or two so that we may take advantage of them. If there are stores, restaurants, or other attractions near the paths, that is even better.

There are two things I look for in RV resorts: leash-free dog walking areas and well-equipped rec rooms. Our dogs enjoy the freedom of running and meeting other campers’ canines. And I like meeting the other campers at the rec room’s card or pool tables, especially when the coffee is on.

Future questions:
1. What’s the most unusual place or attraction you’ve visited during a motorhome trip?
2. Describe a card game, board game, etc. you particularly enjoy when camping.
