One couple’s coach currently is hibernating but will be ready for action come spring.

The Imperialis have been RVing since 2015, when they purchased a Forest River Type C motorhome. “After two seasons, we realized how much we loved the RV lifestyle, so we then ordered a 2017 Tiffin Open Road 34PA,” their current Type A motorhome, Kristin said. They joined FMCA in 2018.
The coach is named after a beloved family dog, a bichon frise. “Teddy would get so excited when we would set up a tent in our yard for our four children to sleep in. He never missed an opportunity to join them ‘camping.’ Although Teddy didn’t live to see either RV, we know he would have thoroughly enjoyed camping in them,” Kristin said.

These days, the Imperalis take along 15-year-old Holly and 5-year-old Bentley, a bichon and toy poodle, respectively, who “absolutely both love traveling in the RV,” Kristin said. The couple’s adult children and a granddaughter join them occasionally.
Steven and Kristin’s RV trips generally occur between May and November. Working around Steven’s job as an electrical engineer, they manage about six weeks a year.
When they do hit the road, they tend to drive toward the beach. “Our favorite site is one that overlooks the ocean,” Kristin said.
She noted that they particularly enjoy exploring new areas and meeting people. “On many occasions, fellow RVers have noticed we don’t travel with a towed vehicle and have offered to take us along shopping if need be. So far, we have not taken them up on it, but we generally appreciate such thoughtfulness,” she said.
On one excursion, they traveled to St. Johnsbury, Vermont, and stayed at Moose River Campground. “The couple across from us came over to say hello. Turns out they live two miles from us here in Massachusetts,” Kristin said. “As we got talking, we realized both our next trips were to the exact same campground in Carrabelle Beach, Florida, at the same time! Such a small world.”
Other destinations have included Orange Beach, Alabama; Gatlinburg, Tennessee; and Belfast, Maine.
Whether they’re home or away, Teddy Tiffin becomes part of the holiday action. The Imperialis decorate the coach when they’re parked in campgrounds for Halloween and the Fourth of July. This December at home, Kristin said, they plan to light up the motorhome’s windshield along with the yard.
