With great sadness, I must inform you of the passing of the FMCA South Central Area national vice president, Herman Mullins, F302225. Herman was elected to his current office in July 2021 and was very proud to announce that he was the oldest elected area vice president at age 84. Herman would have been 86 on his next birthday, March 29, 2023. He was an active and respected member of the FMCA Executive Board.

Herman Mullins filled many volunteer roles at FMCA events, such as pitching in to serve at the Ladies’ Luncheon during the Lincoln, Nebraska, convention in August 2022.
Herman passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2022. He had suffered a stroke on October 27. Although he returned home and started rehab, he was unable to regain his speech and mobility. Herman returned to the hospital with a virus and then died from pneumonia. Before his body was taken to the funeral home, a special event took place. As a Navy veteran, Herman’s body was given an Honor Walk, leaving his hospital room on a gurney draped in the U.S. flag. His family followed the gurney as hospital staff stood in doorways and lined the hall with respect for a fallen veteran. Herman’s wife, Bobbie, and the family were greatly moved by this display of honor. Herman served 8 years in the U.S. Navy just before troops were deployed to Viet Nam.
Herman joined FMCA on November 9, 2001, and volunteered for many positions over the years. Listed are only some of the FMCA offices he held:
*Executive Board, current
*Policy and Procedure Committee, current
*Risk Management Committee, current
*FMCA Forums Moderator, current
*FMCA Review Council Chairman, 2019 – 2021
*Past South Central Area Senior Vice President, 2018 – 2021
*Past South Central Area Southern Region Vice President, 2014 – 2017
*President of Lone Star Chapter, 2013 and 2019
Among many other volunteer positions, he worked both at FMCA international conventions and area rallies.
Herman was a man who sought solutions and fixed problems. When FMCA ran into problems with mirrors and lights being required by our insurance company for golf carts at conventions and rallies, it was Herman who immediately made mirrors that could be attached to the rented golf carts. He was a man of action, not questions.
I had known for quite some time that Herman monitored the FMCA Forums and helped many members over the years resolve issues they listed. I wondered how Herman had the time to see all the forum messages. I learned that Herman would get up at 3:00 a.m. and get on his computer to review and answer the messages. Herman was dedicated to our members and loved corresponding with them.
If you ever saw Herman at the conventions or rallies in his golf cart, you would find that he had dog treats for our four-legged members. He didn’t have a dog, but all the dogs were quick to learn Herman’s golf cart and knew he would have a treat for them.
In addition to Bobbie, Herman leaves a daughter, three sons, 10 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service was scheduled for late January 2023. Please keep Bobbie and the family in your thoughts and prayers.
Herman will be seriously missed, but never forgotten.
