After their cargo box detached from the rear of their motorhome during a trip to Alaska, Tim and Carole Hart had a chance encounter along the roadside that resulted in a solution.

Serendipitous Service

My wife and I would like to recognize a good Samaritan for coming to our rescue during a visit to the beautiful province of Alberta on our way to Alaska.

When our cargo box broke free from the rear of our motorhome in Grand Prairie, Alberta, we were left with few options. There was no space in the motorhome to store the cargo box and its contents, so to keep on schedule, we were going to have to remove the contents and leave the $750 box on the side of the road.

As we were freeing the box from the motorhome, our guardian angels came to the rescue. The first person to stop and ask if he could help was Gordy Provencher (CEO of LSM-Lee’s Sheet Metal). We offered him the box, but he had a better solution. He said he would load the box into his truck, and we could follow him to his shop. In less than two hours, his team fabricated a ¼-inch sheet-metal base, reinforced our box internally with sheet metal ribs, mounted it all to our hitch, and had us back on the road!

After 12,631 miles on the road, I’m proud to say the box had a noneventful trip to Alaska and back home to Ohio.

People like Gordy are great representatives of Alberta, the city of Grand Prairie, and the human race. We will always be thankful to him and his team who came to our rescue!

Farewell To A Friend

We recently lost a member of our Sun Wheelers chapter family. Vivian Crews Ritsma, F426843, passed away on March 3, 2024. She and Keith Tindall have been members of the Sun Wheelers since 2012. Over the years, Vivian served as an officer and held positions on a number of committees in our club. She was loved by everyone and was an inspiration to us all.

Vivian loved life and lived it to the fullest. We are constantly reminded of her happiness, warmth, and laughter. She had a zest for life that was infectious. Vivian found joy in spending time with her family and with her Sun Wheeler family. She would light up a room when she walked in, and her friendship was a gift to us all.

Vivian leaves behind the love of her life and best friend, Keith Tindall, as well as a son, daughter, brother, sisters, and grandchildren.

We will miss our camping buddy. She was the best!
