The FRVA national office recently learned of the passing of Doug Key, F72824, who served as national treasurer from 2007 to 2009. He also participated on the Finance and Audit committees from 2006 to 2009. Doug and his wife, Judy, joined the association in 1985 shortly after purchasing their first motorhome. They became members of numerous Western Area and International Area chapters. As treasurer of the Rexhall International RV Club from 2002 to 2005, Doug upgraded its accounting processes, managed the website, and served as national director. The Keys were rally masters for many chapter events, including annual “homecoming” rallies that drew more than 300 RVs.
Doug and Judy rolled up their sleeves, literally, with FMCA Chapter: Habitat for Humanity®, helping to build homes for families in need of affordable housing. These included two association-sponsored build projects in 2006: one in Bethel, Ohio, and another in Lenoir, North Carolina.
At Western and INTO area rallies, the Keys assisted with trams, parking, and seminars, including roles as volunteer captains. They also were tram volunteers and captains for the association’s international conventions in Pomona, California.
Doug received a bachelor of business degree from Woodbury University in Los Angeles. He also studied law and systems management; became a certified public accountant and certified public auditor; and was certified in international security management. Working for the Department of Defense, he assisted the FBI with a fraud investigation. For almost 30 years, he held senior financial management positions with public and private corporations.
He also held leadership roles in the Kiwanis Club of Santee, California.
In his 2007 resume for FMCA national treasurer, Doug listed many interests in addition to motorhoming: international travel, history, photography, woodworking, fishing, sailing, astronomy, and amateur radio. Clearly, he lived up to his convictions, as he also wrote, “Judy and I strongly believe that you get out of life what you put into it.”
Doug is survived by Judy, his wife of 43 years, and three children.
