Cora “Jean” Jefcoat, L118344, wife of former FMCA national president Jeff Jefcoat (2001-2003), passed away on September 18, 2013, in South Carolina. She was 83.
Jean was born January 17, 1930, in Moselle, Mississippi, the youngest of 13 children raised by Shadrick and Annie Merritt. After graduating from Moselle High School, she attended the University of Southern Mississippi. She married D.H. “Jeff” Jefcoat on November 12, 1949. They had four children and lived for several years in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, before moving to Little Mountain, South Carolina, just outside of Columbia.
Jean was a devoted homemaker and mother. She also was an avid reader, often reading several books at the same time. The Jefcoats were members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Little Mountain.
Following Jeff’s retirement in 1987, the couple began traveling and joined Family Motor Coach Association in May 1989. The Jefcoats became members of numerous chapters, including Carolina Cruisers, Converted Coaches of the Eastern Area, Gemstones, FMCA Chapter: Habitat For Humanity®, Penn Coachmen, Coaches For Christ, Dixie Traveliers, Blue Bird, and Vintage Birds. Jean served as national director of the Frustrated Maestros — Eastern Sharps and Flats chapter. The couple served on the Membership/Member Services Committee in 1996-1997, and Jean was part of the Cincinnati Support Committee from 2003 to 2005.
Jean is survived by Jeff; daughter Pam Holt; sons Mike (Joan), Doug (Jeanne), and Sam (Pamela); eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cecile Camera.
