Whether you’re a morning person, a night owl, or somewhere in between, how does it equate to motorhome travel? FMC readers added their thoughts to this month’s discussion:

What’s the best time of day when traveling in your motorhome?

To us, the best time is when we return after a good day of sight-seeing. A glass of wine by the campfire puts everything in perspective. It’s a time to reflect, a time to relax, and a time to count our blessings. It’s also nice to know that every comfort of home is just a few steps away. We don’t watch TV outside, but we do enjoy the peace and tranquility of the outdoors. We see people walking by, smiles on their faces. Our reflections on another day of experiencing life — that’s what motorhoming is all about.

Food determines my traveling itinerary! I am an early riser, and breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. I get on the road early and will already have had my breakfast location picked out the night before. I mostly enjoy local family restaurants and tasting their morning specials. For lunch, I will keep my eye out for places — again, those with a local flair. Dinner comes when I arrive at my destination campground (before sundown). I usually decide what I crave for dinner while I’m on the road, so no telling what it might be. Before I tuck myself in, I look ahead to the next travel day. I map out my breakfast options, and come sunrise the cycle starts all over again. There’s a lot of great local food across this country, and for me, that adds to the fun of motorhoming.

Our preferred time to travel is either in the early morning or the early evening. It is cooler then, and we don’t miss getting to see things we would like to do during regular business hours. We don’t like to travel when it is dark, because you can’t see anything and it makes the journey seem even longer. We like to take in the beautiful and ever-changing landscape around us. Sometimes, traveling in the morning or the evening depends on whether we are going east or west; we try to keep from driving directly into the sun. Another factor that decides when we get on the highway is whether we are near a large city; we try to avoid rush hour, because it’s no fun in a motorhome pulling a towed car!

1. Where’s the best place to view the night sky when you’re camping?

2. What is your favorite season for motorhoming? Please share why.
