#ILoveFMCA

The 52nd anniversary of FMCA’s founding is July 20, 2015. Leading up to that date, FMCA is encouraging members to share some FMCA love on Facebook.

On your Facebook page, post one positive tidbit about FMCA and end it with the hashtag #ilovefmca. Post something that you or your family love about FMCA, or something that makes you proud or grateful to be an FMCA member.

As you see these posts appearing on FMCA’s page and your friends’ Facebook pages, please “like” or comment on the posts so they will continue to pop up on pages, allowing more folks to see them. The goal is to share positive stories about why we love Family Motor Coach Association.

All you have to do to show your appreciation is to make one post. Remember to keep an eye out for other #ilovefmca posts and make sure to “like” or comment on them. Let’s get the word out about why we love FMCA!

A Fitting Tribute

Dear Editor:
In the May 2015 “President’s Message” column (page 6), president Charlie Adcock wrote, with great emotion, about the military men and women who gave it all to our country and those who struggled after returning from war. I, along with many others, witnessed this emotion while at the Rally in the Pasture at Charlie’s home earlier this year.

Charlie wrote of his Uncle Dillard, who served in World War II, and the struggles he had upon returning. Charlie, your uncle is looking down and saying, “Well done, keep up the good work, and keep on having fun.”

KOA Owner Comes To The Rescue

Dear Editor:
On May 2, 2015, my wife and I left South Carolina for a month vacation in the Western states. I was not feeling 100 percent when I left home but thought it was something minor. After four days on the road, we arrived for an overnight stay at the Denver East/Strasburg KOA campground (1312 Monroe St., Strasburg, CO 80136; 303-622-9274). My wife had grown very concerned about my health and knew I needed medical attention. Neither of us knew the area, so she asked Scott Jacobson, the owner of the KOA, if there was a nearby clinic or doctor. He drove us to the local clinic where the physician was adamant that I go to a medical facility in Denver for further tests. Scott took us back to the campground, unhooked our towed car, and led us to the University of Colorado Medical Center, where they found a significant blood clot in my lungs. After a three-day stay in the hospital, we flew back to South Carolina. Again, Scott was there to arrange transportation to the Denver airport and to store our RV until we could make arrangements to get it picked up.

The real story here is a guardian angel named Scott Jacobson, the owner of Denver East/Strasburg KOA, who came to our rescue and helped us through a very difficult situation in an unfamiliar place, 1,600 miles from home. I really have no idea what we would have done without his help. If you are ever in the Strasburg/Denver area, I can highly recommend staying with Scott and his family. We’re forever grateful.

Dry Again

Dear Editor:
We own a 2004 Holiday Rambler Imperial that had a leaky driver’s-side window. The window had been removed to allow installation of a household electric refrigerator, and after it was reinstalled, it leaked off and on for almost two years. Several attempts were made to reseal that window properly and none worked.

We finally gave up and took the coach to window experts Suncoast Designers Inc. in Hudson, Florida (15050 Labor Place, Hudson, FL 34667; 727-868-2773; www.suncoastdesigners.com). We arrived there in the late afternoon before our appointment the next morning. They have nice parking spots with electrical and water hookups, and an on-site dump station. Promptly at 7:00 a.m. the next day, there came the knock on our door to talk about our window issue. It was still dark. They came back at 8:00 a.m. once it was light outside and carefully inspected the window. They declared it improperly sealed, so they took out the old seal and installed a new silicone one. They let it set for a while, and then water-tested it, looking for leaks.

No leaks were present, so by 9:00 a.m. they sent us on our way with only a minimal charge. I highly suggest Suncoast Designers for anyone in or near Florida with leaky, foggy, or broken windows. These folks are RV window experts.

Campground Savings Search

Dear Editor:
We have been RVing for over 14 years, mostly short trips and weekends. Soon we will be on the road five to six months at a time.

We started looking into RV campground memberships to achieve huge discounts, such as 50 percent off advertised rates. We also stumbled into several RV time-share membership opportunities. Some are high pressure, one was a scam, and some reputable ones do not suit our plans.

We are to travel along Florida’s east coast from the Keys to Jacksonville. Can fellow members recommend discount RV parks?

Editor’s note: You may also wish to pose this question to fellow members in the “Forums” section on FMCA.com. Also, FMCA maintains a partnership with Passport America, a 50 percent discount camping club. For details, see www.passportamerica.com or call (800) 681-6810. In order to receive a special offer, be sure you let them know you are an FMCA member.

Many FMCA commercial member campgrounds offer discounts. See the listing in the RV Marketplace campground directory, online at FMCA.com and in the June and January issues of FMC.
