Safety Rail
Here is how we ensure that a child does not roll off the sleeping area above the cockpit of a Type C motorhome. We bought a 1-inch-by-8-inch-by-96-inch piece of poplar lumber to serve as a rail. (A 1-inch-by-10-inch piece would be better, and another relatively knot-free wood, such as pine, also could be used.) We sanded, stained, and varnished the wood. We created a pair of cleats, each ½ inch by 1 inch by 6 inches, and secured them on either side of the motorhome walls with screws. The cleats create a groove between the cushions and the back of the cockpit so that the rail can be inserted. We attached ladder brackets to the rail, which can be removed and stored when not in use.
