Final rally included a visit to the “Old West.”

The Ohio Nomads chapter’s final rally of 2018 took place the last weekend of September as members enjoyed the Old West Festival in Williamsburg, Ohio. It featured realistic shootouts, characters in Western attire, storytelling, and rattlesnake chili. The weekend was marked by sunshine and fellowship.

Members stayed at the FMCA Campground in Newtown, Ohio, just outside Cincinnati. FMCA members can camp free two nights per month; a maximum of five additional nights per month costs $20 per night. The campground, which is open year-round, has 15 full-hookup sites on concrete pads and nine electric-only sites on blacktop. To make a reservation, visit www.fmca.com/stay-fmca.

We gathered on Thursday for happy hour, which, in our case, has nothing to do with alcohol and everything to do with getting together to have fun. On Friday we took an interesting and informative tour of FMCA headquarters and met the staff. Afterward, we ventured out in different directions until we gathered for dinner. (Many of our chapter activities revolve around food.) That evening we played board games and had a 50/50 drawing.

At a roundtable discussion, Les Naylor, FMCA national vice president, Great Lakes Area, spoke about FMCA Roadside Rescue®, which costs $69 a year. Les also discussed the FMCAssist Medical Emergency and Travel Assistance Program administered by Seven Corners. He recommended that members put their FMCA membership number and Seven Corners phone number under their phone’s setting for “ICE” — which stands for “in case of emergency.” Many phone manufacturers have provided a mechanism to display emergency numbers, even if a phone is locked.

Les also recommended that members who no longer travel in an RV remain active as associate members so they can retain FMCA benefits, including tire discount programs.

The Ohio Nomads chapter has a great lineup of rallies scheduled for 2019. Anyone interested in meeting us is welcome. Call me at (440) 812-3697 and leave a message. Sure hope to see you there!
