Recall Corner: February 2011

Fleetwood RV Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 10V577000, which affects certain 2011-model-year Terra motorhomes built from June 24, 2010, through October 4, 2010. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 84.

The affected motorhomes fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 108, “Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment.” The high-beam headlights and low-beam headlights are not in the correct positions as specified by the standard. Incorrect positioning of the high-beam and low-beam headlights could result in glare to oncoming drivers and/or reduced visibility of the motorhome, which could lead to a crash with the motorhome.

A Fleetwood RV dealer will remove the existing high-beam and low-beam headlights and replace them with different high-beam and low-beam headlights in order to comply with the standard. The repair is expected to take approximately 90 minutes. However, because of service scheduling times, the service department may need the vehicle for a longer time period.

Forest River Inc. has announced NHTSA recall 10V595000, which involves 2011-model-year Georgetown motorhomes with Khaki, Latte, Mist, or Thunder décor options that were built from September 23, 2010, through November 2, 2010. The potential number of motorhomes involved is 58.

The affected motorhomes fail to comply with requirements of Federal Motor Safety Standard No. 302, “Flammability of Interior Materials.” The fabrics used in the window treatments, window valances, draperies, and bedspreads were not treated with a flame retardant by the supplier, Artisian Interiors. Fabric that has not been treated with flame retardant does not meet burn resistance requirements and could burn faster in the event of a fire, increasing the risk of injury to the motorhome’s occupants.

A Forest River dealer will replace the untreated fabric with fabric that has been treated with flame retardant. The replacement is expected to take less than a day. However, because of service scheduling times, the service center may need the vehicle for a longer time period.
