Family & Friends: Central Florida Roadrunners Mark 40th Anniversary

April 1, 2015

The Central Florida Roadrunners chapter gathered October 17-19, 2014, to celebrate its 40th anniversary at Travelers Rest RV Resort and Golf Course in Dade City, Florida. Twenty-five coaches attended.

Visitors for the occasion included Paul and Clara Roy, who were longtime FMCA members and former members of the Central Florida Roadrunners, and Norm and Barb Holley, who are longtime chapter members and former officers.

The chapter’s anniversary committee planned festive decorations and two wonderful catered meals. Activities included entertainment on Friday night and installation of new officers on Saturday afternoon. All members received a 40th anniversary pin that was designed around the chapter’s roadrunner logo.

We celebrated with much reminiscing. Photo albums from throughout the 40 years were on display and brought back wonderful memories of activities, camping, and fun. It was amusing to look at the hair and clothing styles we wore and the variety of makes and models of motorhomes we owned. But the best part of this weekend was sharing stories and accumulated wisdom with one another.

Central Florida Roadrunners was founded in March 1974 and chartered on July 13, 1974. It was the 35th chapter in FMCA and grew rapidly. As of this month, it has the distinction of being one of 35 FMCA chapters (out of more than 440 total) in existence for 40 years or more.

Chapter members always have actively volunteered at FMCA area rallies and Family Reunions. Several members have been elected to national offices, including Dottie Pierce, who was the first female president of FMCA.
