The Red River Rovers chapter is a friendly and caring group open to all motorhome owners. In fact, fellow members are considered family. We gathered for the chapter’s 15th anniversary rally June 9-12, 2016, at Durant/Choctaw Casino KOA in Durant, Oklahoma.
The chapter was formed in Denton, Texas, in 2001 by Darrell and Grace Gilliland. Darrell is a former FMCA national vice president, South Central Area. The charter listed 27 families who hailed from north-central Texas and south-central Oklahoma. Today, eight of those original 27 families are still members. The current membership is 69 families.
The chapter holds seven rallies a year — in March, April, May, June, September, October, and November — plus a Christmas luncheon in early December. Members like to broaden their knowledge, so each rally includes sessions devoted to technical subjects and to crafts.
Rallies generally are within a 150-mile radius of Denton. But members also like to travel farther at least once a year, such as to our May 2016 rally in Kerrville, Texas; members also took a post-rally trip to Big Bend National Park.
The main objective is to have fun, and we are always very successful in that endeavor.
