The Bluebonnet Travelers
By Peggy Jordan, Associate Editor
February 2018
Super Bowl Sunday is this month — specifically, February 4, 2018 — and among the many watch parties taking place will be one made up of Bluebonnet Travelers. Members of this FMCA chapter will be at Brazos Valley RV Park in Caldwell, Texas, February 4 through 7.
They will be cheering on their favorites, but also celebrating their first rally of the new year. Cindy Duffey, the chapter’s second vice president and rally master, said the group meets in Texas and in its border states of Louisiana, New Mexico, and Oklahoma. Members mostly live in north Texas, such as the Dallas-Fort Worth region, and some call Kerrville, Georgetown, Austin, and other spots home.
Do you golf? You will be in good company with this bunch. What about fishing? The next rally is in April in Onalaska, Texas, at Lake Livingston KOA, and if the weather is good, members will be angling. But if you don’t golf or fish, no problem. “Regardless of what we do, we try to find things that are of interest for everybody,” Cindy said. “It works best when everyone can be included.”
Active Activities
The chapter goes on tours, does some hiking, and attends events. This year at the end of May and beginning of June, their rally will focus on the Magnolia Festival of Oklahoma, which has live music, vendors, arts and crafts, and a fireworks show, all near the Choctaw RV Park in Durant, where they will stay. “The evening fireworks are set off right next to the RV park,” Cindy said. “We just sit there at our coach and enjoy.”
Future rallies for this year will take place in Angel Fire, New Mexico, and Spring, Texas, among others.
The recent vote by the FMCA membership to allow RVers with towable vehicles to join the association should work well for the Bluebonnet Travelers. “We did vote to include trailers in our chapter,” Cindy said. “There are quite a few people who have sold their coaches and bought fifth-wheels, and are excited to be able to come back.”
This is a welcoming chapter; so much so, Cindy said it’s likely you’ll join if you just meet them. And in general, Cindy is an advocate of FMCA chapter membership: “If you are not using your RV as much as you would like to, try a club. It doesn’t necessarily have to be ours, but you will build relationships and friends for life. You never know what you’re going to learn from someone else.”
