Rollin’ Okies members gathered in Grove, Oklahoma, from May 30 to June 2, 2018, to celebrate the chapter’s 45th anniversary. Herman Mullins, senior vice president of the South Central Area’s Six State Rally Association, presented the chapter with an anniversary certificate and check.
Seventeen couples founded the chapter at Fountainhead State Park (now Lake Eufaula State Park) in Checotah, Oklahoma, in June 1973. Most of the founding members were from the Tulsa, Oklahoma, area.
Over the years, the Rollin’ Okies have had a strong presence in FMCA. Chapter members have included past FMCA national presidents R.G. Wilson (2003-2005) and Glen R. Key (1986-1988). In addition, R.G.’s wife, Jeri, serves as national director.
Today, Rollin’ Okies members hail from Oklahoma, Arkansas, Kansas, and Texas. We have a wide range of interests, including travel, golf, games, fishing, sight-seeing, and, of course, socializing.
We usually have four to five rallies a year, most of which are in Oklahoma. We occasionally travel to a place of special interest in surrounding states, such as Branson, Missouri, or Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Most of our rallies take place Thursday through Saturday. If the weather is nice, golfers arrive a few days early. Our wagon master books rallies at places with quality RV facilities, including a dining room and a kitchen and nearby golf courses. At some rallies, members host potluck meals or pancake breakfasts.
We are a small chapter, and we welcome fun and friendly folks to join us at one of our rallies. We also are always on the lookout for new places to visit on our campout weekends. Yearly dues are $30 per RV, with rally fees of $15 per person. For more information, including our rally schedule, email president Rick Ryan at rlryanj@sbcglobal.net or call wagon master Gerald Scroggins at (405) 880-5260.
