When they learned that the Great Eastern Area Rally (known by many as GEAR) would not happen in 2019, members of two Eastern Area chapters — Penn Coachmen and Dogwood — decided to organize their first joint rally. It was held from October 15 to 17, 2019, at the Harpers Ferry/Civil War Battlefields KOA in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia.
Members arrived in 24 RVs for a fun time that included social hours, games, tours, and, of course, lots of food. We do not believe a chapter rally ever runs low on food! Everything came together wonderfully. The rally masters were Dogwood members Jim and Susan Buelow and Penn Coachmen members Eric and Phyllis Britz, and Gary and Sue Cipa.
Against a backdrop of mostly nice fall days, we enjoyed getting to know each other. We swapped some ideas and techniques on how we run our chapters. We told lots of stories and shared plenty of laughs.
The Penn Coachmen and Dogwood chapters hope to hold another joint rally before this year’s GEAR, which will be September 30 to October 4 in Lewisburg, West Virginia. At GEAR, the two chapters look forward to challenging each other in bean bag baseball and the chapter fair competition.
