July 2023
Patricia “Pat” Snyder, L1852, FMCA’s first life member along with her late husband, George, died January 20, 2023, at age 88. George was instrumental in spearheading FMCA’s Lifetime Membership program, which raised money to purchase FMCA’s national headquarters building in Cincinnati.
The Snyders and their children traveled to countless FMCA chapter rallies and conventions. In an FMCA magazine article following her father’s passing in 2010, daughter Lori recalled, “. . . there were many times we would emerge from school to find our motorhome in line with the school buses. . . . Mom was always there to ensure that the coach was packed and the food set for each trip.”
As copilot, Pat shared driving duties with George. Years of motorhome adventures took the family through the 48 contiguous U.S. states, Canada, and Mexico. After George passed, Pat continued to travel with her children, taking road trips and cruises, and even swimming with the dolphins in Mexico.
Pat and George were devoted to FMCA at many levels. George served as FMCA national vice president from 1972 to 1975 and as national second vice president from 1976 to 1977, and was a member of various committees. Both served on the Youth Activities Committee from 1992 to 1993. Because of their many contributions to the Northeast Motorhome Association, including their work with the area’s youth, Pat and George were named the initial inductees of the Northeast Motorhome Association Hall of Fame. Pat was recognized for this honor during the 2011 Northeast Area Rally.
Pat is survived by her four children, Randy, Lori, Mary Jo, and Ryan; a stepson, Richard; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
