When it comes to overnight camping, traveling during the busy spring/summer season can be a challenge for RVers, no matter where you are in the United States. Touring along the Oregon Coast is a perfect example.

Every year, an estimated 1 million visitors utilize Highway 101, including the 360 miles of scenic roadway that hugs the entire length of Oregon’s beautiful coastline. Driving north along the Pacific Coast, from the California border up through Oregon to the Columbia River, can easily fill your digital devices with delightful sights and sounds — ocean, beaches, lakes, rivers, waterfalls, coastal towns, harbors, and golf courses.

It’s also the time of the year when finding a place to set up camp can be a little dicey for those who don’t have a daily stopping point prearranged on the family travel itinerary. That’s because private, state, county, and federal campgrounds are almost always booked months in advance during Oregon’s busiest travel season.

But RVers have options, thanks to local casinos.

COASTAL INDIAN CASINOS CATER TO RVS

One saving grace for those who find themselves looking for a last-minute place to park their RV are the four tribal casino resorts located in Coos Bay, North Bend, Florence, and Lincoln City on Oregon’s southern-central coast. The odds are good that these centrally located resorts have an open space even during the height of travel season.

“Oregon’s casino resorts blend entertainment, culture, and hospitality in a way that matches the spirit of the Pacific Northwest,” says Travel Oregon’s website (traveloregon.com). “These properties are not only places to play your favorite slot machines or table games, they’re also destinations for live music, fine dining, resort-style spas, and RV-friendly lodging.”

Three Rivers Casino in Coos Bay, Oregon, provides a dry campground for travelers.

THREE RIVERS CASINO RESORT — COOS BAY

RV parking is as varied as the casino resorts themselves. The little Three Rivers Casino Resort in the Empire District of Coos Bay allows RVers to dry camp in the parking lot. Although this casino doesn’t partner directly with a specific RV park, it does provide RVers with locations of several nearby camping options. Note: Be sure to call ahead to request if on-site dry camping is available (877-374-8377).

KO-KWEL CASINO RESORT

The much larger Ko-Kwel Casino Resort-Coos Bay (kokwelresorts.com/coos-bay; formerly called The Mill Casino Resort) in nearby North Bend right on Highway 101, has a large RV park on the north side of the property. The facility features more than 100 bayside campsites, including dozens of pull-throughs with full hookups. Amenities include pet-friendly sites and a dog park; showers and restrooms; laundry facilities; and a casino shuttle.

The Southern Oregon Coast is an unforgettable destination. When RVers roll through Coos Bay, or plan to take advantage of the dramatic coastal cliff views, bird watching, beachcombing, fishing, golfing, and more in the local area, the Ko-Kwel Casino Resort’s RV park is a great place to put down the jacks overnight or for longer stays.

“RVers are a big part of what we do here at the resort,” said Michael Laffey, director of marketing and communications. “The park fills up for all of our major events, as well as during [ocean] fishing and crabbing seasons.” RV park guests enjoy free shuttles to the casino, hotel, and pool but many take a short stroll along the water to multiple food outlets, he added.

“Being right on Highway 101, our RV guests take in the amazing views of the bay and have a home base for Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area, the rugged beauty of the Pacific Ocean, and a short hop to some of the best golf courses in America,” Laffey said.

THREE RIVERS CASINO RESORTS — FLORENCE

Drive an hour farther north on Highway 101 and turn right onto Highway 126 (toward Eugene) to reach Three Rivers Casino Resorts – Florence. This is the larger of the two Three Rivers resorts. Its RV park is undergoing renovation; at this writing, dry camping is available throughout the park. Future plans call for sites with electric and water hookups; showers; laundry facilities; and a group event space, with some development expected to be completed this summer. Complimentary shuttle service takes park guests to the casino and nearby attractions.

Three Rivers Casino Resort in Florence, Oregon, offers dry camping while its campground is undergoing renovation.

“What really sets our RV park apart is the level of service and convenience we offer,” Rich Colton, the property’s director of marketing, explained. “Guests enjoy a very secure facility with 24/7 surveillance, easy access to our casino, and amenities like on-site EV charging, complimentary coffee, and access to the hotel’s fitness center. We also provide shuttle service to local attractions — from golf and the airport to dune tours — so visitors can experience everything Florence has to offer without moving their RV.”

The resort’s on-site team is also available to assist with scheduling fishing tips, finding RV repair facilities, and other guest requests, Colton said. (Editor’s note: At the time of this writing, neither Three Rivers property partners with local RV parks.)

CHINOOK WINDS CASINO RESORT

Another 75 miles farther north on the Pacific Coast Highway, the Chinook Winds Casino Resort (chinookwindscasino.com), located on the very northern end of Lincoln City, is also big about making RVers feel comfortable camping with them.

Logan Road RV Park is a prime spot for RVers to camp just blocks away from Chinook Winds Casino Resort in Lincoln City, Oregon.

The resort offers dry camping at one of its multiple parking lots — and offers RVers full services, thanks to their partnership with Logan Road RV Park (loganroadrvpark.com), located just a couple blocks from the beautiful beachfront property. Chinook Winds, like several of the casino resorts to the south, provides free shuttle service between the RV park and the casino resort.

Logan Road has more than 50 RV sites, including pull-throughs and back-in locations, along with full hookups and picnic tables at each site. Beach access is just two blocks away. Other amenities include free high-speed Wi-Fi, cable TV, and a dog park.

Camping at one of these four coastal Oregon casino resorts may not suit all RVers. But if a spur-of-the-moment desire to stop and enjoy the wonders of the Central Oregon coast means finding a last-minute place to camp, these properties may be an RVer’s best bet to find a parking place during busy travel seasons.

MORE TRIBAL CASINOS

Aside from the coastal casino resorts described above, which are owned and operated by tribes federally recognized in Oregon, the state is home to other tribal resorts as well. Visit traveloregon.com/things-to-do/oregon-attractions/casinos for their locations and specific amenities. The website also provides information about Native American culture, events, and other activities.
