Russ and Laura Hines, F493195
Home: Glen Rock, Pennsylvania.
Occupations:
Russ: Retired police officer; now a mobile RV service technician.
Laura: Registered nurse.
RV: 2019 Tiffin Phaeton motorhome.
Pets: Axel, a German shepherd that travels with us; cats Turbo and Diesel.
RVing since: 1985 when we bought our first pop-up; we’re now on our fourth motorhome.
I became a mobile RV service tech because: Russ: When I retired from law enforcement, I wanted to do something totally different from my past 30 years.
I wish I had a nickel for every time:
Russ: An RVer discovers I do RV service and says, “Can I ask you a dumb question?” Or, “If you have a second, could you look at this?”
Our biggest camping challenge: Laura: We were hiking in Skyline, Virginia, when Bosha, our German shepherd, got too close to a waterfall and went over it, breaking her femur. We had to hike five miles carrying all 115 pounds of her on a stretcher built out of two saplings, a raincoat, and a shirt. The happy ending: She lived for 16 years to hike with us.
Top item on our bucket list: Travel to Alaska in the motorhome.
One thing I never leave home without:
Russ: A well-stocked toolbox.
Laura: My necklace with a police badge on it. It’s my guardian angel watching over me whenever I travel.
