The Allegheny Mountain chapter’s 45th anniversary occurred in October 2020. Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we delayed our celebration until May 2021. A total of 15 coaches gathered at Sharp’s Campground in Shelocta, Pennsylvania. Gaye Young, then-national vice president, Eastern Area, and Phyllis Britz, then-Eastern Area northern regional vice president, also attended, as did some former chapter members.

We celebrated with a pig roast, games, entertainment, wine and cheese, cake, and big campfire. Everyone had a great time renewing old friendships and making new friends. Our entertainment was provided by Mark Anderson, son of a former member. Mark also provided aerial photos of the celebration.

Glenn Himes, president of the Allegheny Mountain chapter, accepted an anniversary check and certificate from Gaye Young, who acknowledged our chapter for the continued support of FMCA.

The Allegheny Mountain chapter is located in western Pennsylvania. Rallies usually take place every third weekend starting in May and continuing through September. As of 2020, we started having one distant rally each year. We have traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, to do the Bourbon Trail, tour horse farms and racetracks, and visit the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. In 2021, we traveled to Michigan to visit Frankenmuth and the Silent Night Memorial Chapel, a replica of the Austrian chapel on the site where the popular Christmas carol was first performed. We also went to Mackinac Island and to the Soo Locks, a maritime museum in Sault Ste. Marie. We plan on going to Gatlinburg, Tennessee, later this year.

In the past few years, our chapter has made several donations to worthwhile causes.

Over the years, many good friendships have been made and maintained, even after not being able to travel for some time. We hope to enjoy many more rallies in the future. For information about the Allegheny Mountain chapter, contact Glenn Himes, gahimes@consolidated.net or (724) 816-8185.
