Rear View: January 2012

January 1, 2012

Since January is the traditional time to jump-start resolutions for the coming year, why not apply that to RV travel? The featured responses below may help you to compile your own on-the-road goals:

What’s the top activity or place to visit on your motorhome “bucket list”?

Anacortes, Washington! At the Pacific Ocean; Mount Baker; fields of flowers and vegetables; baskets of hanging flowers; gateway to the San Juan Islands; Washington Park to gaze at the water; Deception Pass Bridge (amazing to behold); Cap Sante; oil tankers coming and going; Guemes Island; fresh air; cool temperatures, warm sunshine; tall, pointy trees; historical pictures painted on buildings; good restaurants (Greek, Italian, fish, deli, Mexican); La Conner, a neighboring town; walking; antique shops; taking the F/M road to Bellingham, another neighboring town, along the bay, then stopping to eat fresh oysters; the ferry to Alaska; cobblestone streets; and wonderful shops. The Northwest, north of Seattle, is just wonderful. Enjoy!

We are motorcycle riders, and we pull a cargo trailer behind our 2007 Fleetwood Bounder turbo-diesel motorhome. Our dream has always been to go to Sturgis, South Dakota. Four years ago, our wish came true, and we spent a month in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We absolutely fell in love with the area and have gone back every year since. Last year, in fact, we spent 11 weeks there. If you love to ride motorcycles, the Black Hills is the place to go. Our second choice was to ride the “Tail of the Dragon” in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina/Tennessee. We crossed that off our list last year and are now official “Dragon Slayers.” Everyone should ride U.S. 129 from Deals Gap, with its 318 curves in 11 miles. Awesome!!!!

Future questions:
1. Share one way you’ve maximized storage in your motorhome.
2. What’s your favorite snack to make and/or enjoy around the campfire?
