Often, RVers just don’t have time to take leisurely treks of a week, a month, or longer. How, then, can they still enjoy their motorhome?  Below are alternatives posed by FMCA members who answered this month’s question:

If you have time to use your motorhome only on weekends, what’s your favorite camping destination?

Because my wife and I both are employed by the post office, we work most Saturdays. A couple of years ago, on the July Fourth weekend, we decided to camp in the driveway. We pulled out the awning, the folding chairs, and a portable fire pit. We got the grill going and watched the neighbors walk by. Well, within a few hours, we had a nice crowd. People came from way up the street to sit and talk. Now it is slowly becoming a neighborhood tradition that on July Fourth, folks go to the only home on the street with a motorhome. Who knew? We love the holiday rates also.

We enjoy heading to Shipshewana, Indiana. The area is a larger Amish community and has numerous campgrounds where you can just kick back, relax, and get away from the hectic lifestyle of work and home. We wake up in the morning to the sound of roosters and cattle, and our favorite camping spot allows us to look right out our windshield at horses and Shetland ponies. There are plenty of Amish restaurants, meat markets, cheese factories, and other shops, so we always manage to fill our freezers up and come home with more than we took. The clip-clop of horse-drawn buggies is always within earshot, and the buggies never seem to have a problem mingling with modern traffic.

My husband and I love to go to Geneva on the Lake, one hour east of us in Ashtabula County, Ohio. We have a lovely beach, clean Lake Erie water to swim in, picnic tables, grills, and clean restrooms with showers — also boat rentals and jet ski rentals. Plus, it is close to a quaint town (Geneva) with restaurants, bars, stores that sell beach attire, etc.

Future questions:
1. FMCA is headed to the Peach State for a Family Reunion in March 2014. Share your favorite Georgia attraction or travel stop.
2. What do you like best about your current motorhome?
