Family Matters: Remembering Stephen Mann

Former Northeast Area national vice president Stephen Lewis Mann, A29252, passed away July 8, 2023, with his family at his side. Steve and his wife, Marjorie, had celebrated their 35th anniversary just two weeks prior.

The Manns joined FMCA in 1978. Steve served as FMCA’s Northeast Area national vice president from 1997 to 1999. He also served on the Membership/Member Services Committee from 1997 to 1999 and on the FMCA Youth Activities Committee from 1998 to 1999. The couple belonged to several FMCA chapters as well.

Steve was born March 27, 1938, in Milford, Massachusetts. He graduated from Colgate University and served four years with the United States Coast Guard in the middle of his studies. After he was discharged, he was able to keep his class of 1960 affiliation, completing his degree requirements in 1964.

Steve always enjoyed camping, even in his youth as a Boy Scout. He later discovered a passion for motorhome camping and, together with Marjorie, traveled across the entire continental United States. As an avid outdoorsman, he was known to travel with a bike and a bright red kayak that could be spotted a mile away.

Steve was a gifted singer and guitarist, and he shared his passion for music with family and friends. Whether at an FMCA gathering or a backyard campfire, he led the singing. “You Are My Sunshine” was a family favorite.

In addition to Marjorie, Steve is survived by his nine children, 18 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren.
