DEAR EDITOR

INVERTERS SUGGESTION

Power inverters article from the November-December 2025 issue of Family Motor Coaching magazine.

I thought the inverters article by Mark Quasius in the November/December issue (“Power Inverters‚” page 20) was very informative and pretty thorough. I would like to make two additions — one on cable ends and the other on cables.

The connection to the battery bank is critical for inverter performance and safety. Cable ends (lugs) must be firmly and properly installed to handle the large 12-volt-DC current flow in your custom-length cables. I took my cables to a battery shop that had the proper swaging press to attach the lugs to the wiring. I understand there are now lugs prefilled with solder to accomplish the same thing, but don’t know which is best. You will need stranded cables, and there are various types. The stiffer cables are often less expensive than the more flexible ones with smaller strands. I would think either would work effectively in this application

I installed a 1,250-watt inverter in my 1978 GMC motorhome many years ago so we could make coffee and toast bagels in the morning without firing up the generator.

MUSIC FROM THE MAESTROS

I recently attended my first Rocky Mountain Ramble (Rocky Mountain Area Rally) in Farmington, New Mexico. While I did indeed enjoy all the activities the FRVA event offered, the most enjoyable for me was meeting and being invited to join the Frustrated Maestros. I traveled there with my four-string banjolele (ukulele) and met Nancy Derkowski of the Maestros. She asked me to join them playing at each morning’s coffee and doughnuts gathering. What great camaraderie meeting and playing with all the players and singers during the event. My banjolele was nicknamed the “Toy Banjo‚ by some, but it strummed right along with the group. The Frustrated Maestros truly made the trip one to remember.
