RV water softener storage

Secure Storage For Water Softener

After purchasing a portable water softener, we had to determine how to store it securely in our motorhome while we travel. The softener manufacturer recommends upright storage, but the unit is tall, relatively heavy, and has a diameter of only about 6½ inches, which made it unstable when stored upright in a basement bay.

We found a stainless-steel serving tray at a thrift store. The tray provides a stable base on which the softener rests. After attaching two D rings to the tray with screws, we added a ratchet strap to snugly secure the softener to the tray. This solution adds minimal weight, requires little additional storage space, and greatly improves the stability of the water softener during travel. The softener also is more stable when placed on soft ground at a campground. The total cost was less than $20.
