RV Roundup: Take Your Toys With You

Toy hauler RVs incorporate rear “garages” that enable travelers to transport vehicles and other gear, often creating additional living and sleeping areas as well.

By Bruce W. Smith
May-June 2026

Toy haulers are a special breed of RV, ideal for families and others who love to camp in off-the-grid locations and roll out their favorite rides to explore the area. For many toy-hauler enthusiasts, those vehicles can include side-by-sides, ATVs, motorcycles, conventional bicycles, e-bikes, kayaks, golf carts, snowmobiles, or even a 4×4 or sand rail.

Whatever the toy or toys, whatever the season, these special RVs are a mainstay within the outdoor-loving RV crowd.

Toy haulers incorporate a secure garage with a loading ramp, but they are also designed to surround occupants with many of the comforts of home when the day is done and it’s time to relax. The garage area can quickly be converted into a comfortable space to lounge with friends and family, perhaps while enjoying the ambience of an open patio deck overlooking the surrounding scenery.

Toy haulers also accommodate overnight guests via drop-down bunks or queen-sized Murphy beds that turn the spacious rear cargo/garage area into an extra sleeping space.

Garage bathrooms are common, as are entertainment centers. Some models even include garage kitchens, refueling stations, and outdoor grills.

Toy haulers come in a wide range of sizes and prices, from tiny tow-behinds that carry an ATV or a couple bicycles in their rear garage to monster 47-footers that can transport the largest UTVs and provide the living space and amenities of a luxurious fifth wheel.

To provide perspective on the variety of 2026 toy hauler models you’re apt to find on RV dealers’ lots, we’ve put together a cross-section of models that range from basic to luxurious, from tow-behinds to fifth wheels to, yes, even a diesel Class A motorhome.

A note of advice: When it comes to making a final purchase decision between various models, opt for the toy hauler that has the largest fresh water and black water tanks if extended off-grid stays are integral to your plans.

TOY HAULER TOWING
Heavy triple-axle toy haulers with a GVWR over 20,000 pounds are best paired with dually trucks for safer towing.

Heavy triple-axle toy haulers with a GVWR over 20,000 pounds are best paired with dually trucks for safer towing.

Most of today’s toy haulers can be towed by ¾- to 1-ton single-rear-wheel pickups. But a few fifth wheels in the high-end arena are most comfortably towed behind a “dually,” a dual-rear-wheel pickup designed for heavy-duty towing. Those are the triple-axle toy haulers that typically have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) north of 20,000 pounds. So, pay close attention to the “shipping” or dry weight of the toy hauler you are eyeing, along with its maximum cargo capacity, which would include the weight of your toy(s), a full water tank, and the gear/provisions you’ll be bringing along. Those combined weights will dictate the size of the towing vehicle needed for safe travel.

TOY HAULER SHOPPING LIST

Choosing which model toy hauler depends on many factors beyond price. Before heading to the local RV dealer, sit down and list the most important considerations, including the maximum load capacity of the pickup or SUV that will be doing the towing; how many family and friends will need sleeping accommodations; the size of the garage needed to carry the toys; and what length trailer is best suited for your favorite camping locations. Making this list will save a lot of time for both you and the salesperson when finding the right fit. It also helps to think long-term: Will the toy hauler you are eyeing be suitable for the family three to five years down the road? Take your time shopping. It’ll pay dividends in the long run.

KEYSTONE Fuzion 432

Another of the biggest toy haulers is this 46-foot, triple-slideout Fuzion 432 fifth wheel from Keystone RV. This bad boy has two full bathrooms, which is rare in toy haulers, and a 13’6” garage with a drop-down queen bed, plus a loft at the front of the garage for added sleeping space.

The open-concept main living area features a spacious L-shaped sofa and residential styling that feels more “luxury fifth wheel” than traditional toy hauler. The water tanks are some of the largest in the market, making extended off-grid stays easy. Beneath it all, a triple-axle chassis enhances stability, weight distribution, and towing confidence — especially when the RV is fully loaded. Purpose-built for extended trips and demanding adventures, the Fuzion 432 is said to blend heavy-duty capability with a refined, livable design.

Specifications

Length: 46’1” | Dry Weight: 17,540 lbs. | Cargo Capacity: 3,460 lbs. | GVWR: 20,400 lbs. | Axles: 3 | Slideouts: 3 | Garage: 13’6” with full bath, drop-down queen bed, and loft | Fresh Water: 173 gals. | Gray Water: 104 gals. | Black Water: 104 gals. | Fuel Station: dual 30 gals. | Sleeps: 8

KEYSTONE Raptor 444

The 46’1” Raptor 444, another new floor plan, raises the toy hauler bar with its bifold, slide-out side patio — expanding campsite space for entertaining, tailgating, or relaxing with a view — without compromising interior flow. Inside, a large L-shaped sofa faces a 65-inch TV, creating a true residential living space. The expansive kitchen offers generous countertop space and maintains a clear separation between cooking and lounging areas — avoiding the blended layouts common in other RV models. The 13’6” garage has a drop-down queen bed, twin opposing sofas, and a sleeping loft. It accommodates full-size toys, and the ramp can double as a second patio. The 444’s bath-and-a-half enhances livability, and the triple-axle platform delivers confident, stable towing under load.
