Multi-bedroom RVs expand comfort for couples as well as those taking multi-generational road trips.

One of the features I valued highly when living in a 2022 Keystone Sprinter 3590LFT fifth wheel was having a dedicated room that served as my den/office while on the road. That “quiet space” was the perfect nook for me to work remotely, and, on occasion, utilize as a private bedroom for visiting guests.
My affinity for multi-bedroom RVs is shared by a growing number of RVing friends who use it in the same fashion. And more and more, RV manufacturers have embraced those wants and needs, too.

The roomy, two-bedroom Heartland Milestone 39TB also has a bunkroom.
MORE ELBOW ROOM, MORE PRIVACY
“Multi-bedroom and bonus room RVs serve a surprisingly wide and expanding buyer base with the core demographic being active families — typically 30 to 50 years old — with older kids who demand a degree of privacy, and parents who need to reclaim their own space,” said Corian Correll, marketing manager at RV manufacturing conglomerate Forest River Inc.
Beyond that core family segment, families on extended trips and multigenerational travelers rely on the additional room to make longer hauls livable for everyone,” said Correll. “Digital nomads and remote workers — a segment that has grown substantially since 2020 — are using the bonus room as a dedicated workspace. Then there’s the segment placing their RV on a seasonal or permanent site, where the floor plan essentially functions as a vacation retreat.”
These type of multi-bedroom RVs usually come with separate bathrooms, multi-zone climate control, king/queen beds, and an abundance of storage in closets and built-in cabinets. Plus, manufacturers are increasingly embracing a separate entrance for added convenience and privacy.

THE DOWNSIDE OF BIG RVS
A potential shortcoming of RVs with multiple bedrooms is that they’re typically heavier than their single-bedroom counterparts. That means buyers need to pay closer attention to the weight of the RV and how it relates to the capacity of the pickup that will be doing the towing. In most cases, travel trailers with multiple bedrooms typically have a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) between 15,000 and 20,000 pounds.
Any of the “Big Three” automaker’s diesel ¾- and 1-ton crew cab models can easily handle a heavier load, although the latter is the better choice for towing these big trailers on long road trips.
PLAN YOUR OVERNIGHT STAYS
Another aspect to consider when shopping for multi-bedroom RV is that a truck/fifth wheel combo can easily exceed 50 feet in length. That combined length may limit one’s ability to find parking in private RV resorts; county, state, and national parks; and similar travel destinations.
While pull-through sites for 40-foot-plus combos are pretty common, it may be challenging to find parking for 50-foot-plus combos. So, plan your trips accordingly.
Setting those caveats aside, dozens of multi-bedroom RVs are offered today, ranging from mid-tier units up to luxury models. We’ve highlighted a cross-section below to give you a sense of what’s available in this niche.

JAYCO Eagle 367TBTS

MSRP: $107,874

“Most two-bedroom, family-oriented fifth wheels force a compromise: either bunks crammed into a corner or a second room that still feels like an afterthought,” said Jayco’s brand manager Allyson Wikowski. “The Jayco Eagle 367TBTS fixes that by building around true dual-zone living with a private kids’ bedroom (not just bunks) up front with half-bath and fold-down desk, and the full-bath master suite in the rear for parents.” In addition to the roomy layout, this fiver features a large kitchen with an island, a residential-style refrigerator, and appliance package. The 41-footer is one of the lighter multi-bedroom RVs on the market, making it easy to tow behind ¾-ton pickups. “This is a great entry-level model for families upgrading from travel trailers or first-time fifth wheel buyers with kids,” Wikowski noted.

If there’s one multi-bedroom RV that provides the maximum elbow room and privacy for multi-generational users, it’s the new Open Range 3X 393TBR. This 44-footer has three bedrooms, including one for kids and another for guests — not just cramped bunkroom. This floor plan truly gives the sense of a spacious, well-appointed, midpriced luxury residential apartment. Push-To-Talk
One of the best ways to communicate with those you are camping or traveling with in areas where cellular service is spotty, or nonexistent, is via hand-held radios. That’s why Midland USA’s (www.midlandusa.com) compact, yet powerful walkie-talkies are highly popular among RVers. Use them to coordinate back-in parking, caravanning with friends, staying in touch with those who are out and about, and keeping tabs on the weather. There are plenty of Family Radio Service (FRS) walkie-talkies on the market in all price ranges. (FRS is a private, two-way, short-distance voice and data radio system.) One model I have found to be quite handy because of its small size and power (up to 36 miles under ideal conditions, according to Midland) is the fast-charging, long-life T71 X-Talker (model T71VP3). This set of two walkie talkies sells for about $90. In my view, there’s no better way to communicate without the worry of dropped calls or poor cellphone service.
