Proposed First Responders Chapter

I would like to let FMCA members know that a First Responders chapter is being formed. This will be a chapter for both active and retired firefighters, EMS workers, and police. It would be an FMCA Southeast Area chapter, but, of course, all first responders are welcome.

We are in the very early stages, trying to get members and possibly have an informal get-together sometime in October 2019. I hope we can be an official chapter by the time the February 2020 Southeast Area Rally is held.

Interested members should contact me, Stephanie Torres, at rstoro@bellsouth.net, or David Bieri, F455798, at tcwfl@bellsouth.net

Niagara Frontier Travelers’ Enthusiasm Continues

At our chapter’s first 2019 rally, everyone was talking — with a great deal of excitement — about the “Chapter Spotlight” article about the Niagara Frontier Travelers that ran in the April 2019 issue (page 84). All of the members were so proud of the positive focus in that article. Everyone resoundingly said, “Thanks to Peggy!” (Peggy Jordan wrote the article.)

And, between the article and the April “FMCA Events” listing our upcoming rallies, we have had a total of eight inquiries: four from people who since joined our chapter (two were at our first 2019 rally); one more who may join (I am working on it!); two who haven’t replied back; and one that was incredible!

It was from an FMCA member’s daughter. Her mom and dad were among a group of folks who wrote the bylaws for the Niagara Frontier Travelers, and they actually received the FMCA charter. That was 43 years ago! The woman’s dad was the chapter’s first president, and her mom was the chapter’s first secretary. Her father has since passed away, but her mom is still with us, and the daughter is hoping to drive her to one of our rallies to spend a few hours and meet everyone.

Isn’t that wonderful?

What a great response to that article! Thank you again.

FMCAssist A “Blessing”

On December 7, 2018, at an FMCA chapter rally, I tripped and fell over a tree root, breaking my hip. Our host, Chris Holtzman, called 911 and then told us to call the FMCAssist Medical Emergency and Travel Assistance Program phone number, which my husband did.

Seven Corners administers FMCAssist, and they made arrangements to transport me via ambulance the 140 miles to my home after I had surgery to repair my hip.

What a blessing for us, as my husband was able to drive home in our motorhome with our three Yorkies and prepare for my arrival later that day.

During such a stressful time, we were so grateful for the assistance we received. We also are so glad we are FMCA members with such wonderful benefits available.
